About the Way of Shambhala
The Way of Shambhala offers a structured path of meditation and study that is suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators alike. Open to people of any spiritual tradition, it provides a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation practice, wisdom teachings, and physical practices rooted in the ancient traditions of Shambhala and Tibetan Buddhism.
The Way of Shambhala consists of a series of weekend programs (the Heart of Warriorship levels I through V) and weeknight courses. The weekend programs provide a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation practice. The weeknight courses introduce students to the three yanas or "vehicles" of Buddhism (hinayana, mahayana, and vajrayana) and the four dignities of Shambhala warriorship (Tiger, Lion, Garuda, and Dragon).
The Way of Shambhala is set up to alternate between weekend programs and weeknight courses, but participants may choose to attend the Shambhala Training weekend programs sequentially, independent of the weeknight courses. In addition, most of the weeknight courses are open to people who have not completed the weekends.
In the Way of Shambhala, participants are introduced to contemplative disciplines that make the journey experiential—-touching our emotions, our intelligence, our creativity, and the practical details of daily life in modern society. The programs are presented by experienced Shambhala teachers under the guidance of the Shambhala lineage-holder, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
