The Sadhana of Mahamudra is a group practice that invokes the blessings of our lineage and empowers practitioners to be more skilful in benefiting others. It is scheduled on Full and New Moon days because those are times of transition when emotions tend to be volatile and practice can be particularly helpful.

The sadhana is a terma (Hidden Treasure) teaching of Padmasambhava revealed by Trungpa Rinpoche to guide us in the current Dark Age. The text brings together the Kagyü mahamudra tradition that uses obstacles as support in our practice and the crazy wisdom of the Nyingma ati tradition that does not shy away from helping others in unconventional ways.

On Thursday October 19th we will start a 5 part series of practice and study of this text. We will review the main sections of the sadhana to get a sense of how the practice is structured and how each section works with our minds in different ways. Then we will proceed with a line by line commentary of the text with the view of exploring the sadhana in terms of meaning, sign and symbol. Meaning is what we need to realize, sign is the energetic process that is revealed and symbol is the method to realize sign and meaning. The method is like a language or code that we need to learn, to be able to rest in the meaning.

This is the third course on the Sadhana of Mahamudra. Each module is offered independently. To order source texts please contact Harald Dienes. Audio recordings and class notes of the previous two modules can be accessed by contacting him as well. There may be the opportunity to participate live via the Internet for those who do not live in Toronto.
