Join us for this week-long Shambhala Meditation retreat starting on Monday, August 12th at 9:00 am and concluding at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 18th.

This retreat is open to everyone who is interested in meditation, whether you are a brand-new meditator or a seasoned practitioner. We will be practicing functional silence throughout the retreat starting after lunch on the first day. This silence practice is very valuable for building a proper retreat container so that each person is able to have their own individual retreat experience while having the benefit of meditating together with a group of people.

Teaching will be given daily on the stages of Shambhala Meditation and on the Buddhist view of how to meditate and why meditation works. Our practice of sitting meditation will alternate with periods of walking meditation and with a simple set of yoga stretches. These practices are also considered to be part of the over-all meditation experience. They will be practiced as extensions of the Shambhala Meditation approach to meditation.

Individual meditation instruction will be available during this retreat and there will be times of group discussion and audio/video teaching by Ani Pema Chödrön on Shambhala Meditation and related topics.

A light breakfast will be available at the Shambhala Centre each morning starting at 8:30 and lunch will be eaten within the retreat space each day starting at noon. An opportunity for individual outdoor walking meditation is available after lunch each day as part of the retreat container.

Please note that lunch is not provided for this retreat.

The director for this retreat is senior Shambhala teacher, Tom Bell. He will be assisted by Victoria Hagens.

As a part of our practice of cultivating community we will be looking for people to support this retreat. This is a wonderful way to continue your meditation practice and offer support to the teachers, participants and the centre. This may involve helping with food such as breakfast and snacks, ensuring the teaching staff have everything they need and helping with registration. If you are interested in participating in this way please contact Erin: [email protected]
