Death is real. It comes without warning. All of us will eventually become corpses. It is important to maintain the perspective that we are all dying persons. By making friends with our own mortality, we may be able to be of some benefit to others who are dying. Likewise, through looking at the inevitability of death and dying, we may be able to approach our own death with equanimity.

It is important to remember that until we are dead, we are alive.

The Tibetan Buddhist tradition contains an extremely effective meditation on death called the Nine-Point Meditation on Death. We will begin each session with a short period of Shamatha/Mindfulness Meditation.

Each week we will explore and contemplate three points under each category of the Nine Points of Meditation on Death:

  • On September 18 we will contemplate the inevitability of death.
  • On September 25, we will contemplate the uncertainty of the time of death.
  • On October 2, we will contemplate the fact that only spiritual practice can help at the time of death.

You are invited to come to one or all of the three week presentation and practice.

Price: $10 / evening
